The Chantilly training facility boasts 1500 hectares, which includes 120 hectares of grass gallops. More than 2000 horses are in training at Chantilly. Founded in 1834, the Chantilly racetrack boasts enviable backdrop of a fairy tale like chateau making it one of the most remarkable scenes for thoroughbred racing anywhere in the world.

The Museum of the Horse was established in 2013 at the Cour des Remises in the Great Stables. The museum features both Art and enthology. Arqana is the leading Thoroughbred sales firm in France and his headquartered in beautiful Deauville, where thoroughbred auctions have been conducted since 1887. Arqana was born in 2006 from the merged Agence Française de Vente de Pur Sang and Goffs France, thanks to investors which included the Aga Khan.
PRIVATE STUD TOUR Haras de Bonneval, Normandy
Haras de Boneval is one of the Aga Khan’s French farms and spans 265 acres. Purposely built in the 1970’s, the unusual semi-circular shape of the main yard was chosen as an architectural design to ensure that every box for mares and foals would receive the maximum sun exposure. Bonneval is now home to three stallions headed by Siyouni.

Boasting a history of almost one century, Haras de Etreham is located in the region of Normandy near Bayeux, in an area called “le Bessin”. On the eve of the Arc meeting is the prestigious Arqana Sale of the Arc held at Saint Cloud. The sale normally features around 90 horses in training of varying age, sex and distance range.

Arguably the worlds best race over 2400m (1 mile and half), the Prix de L' Arc Triomphe has been run since 1920. Currently valued at 5,000,000 Euro, the Prix de L' Arc Triomphe is the most valuable race run in Europe. The Prix de L' Arc Triomphe meeting features nine races. 6 of the nine are run at Group 1 level, whilst a ninth for the Arabian horses also has Group 1 status. This makes the raceday one of the finest in the world in terms the proliferation of Group 1 races all on one card. Complimenting the Prix de L' Arc Triomphe Sunday meeting is another Longchamp card run the day prior on Saturday. This also features nine races with two run at Group 1 level.

THE TRACK: LONGCHAMP
Longchamp is home to more than half of the Group 1 races run in France each year. Situated across 57 hectares, Longchamp located on the Route des Tribunes at the Bois de Boulogne in the 16th arrondissement of Paris. Racing first commenced at Longchamp in 1857 in front of the Napoleon the third. It was common for the French elite to travel to Longchamp in their luxury yachts down the Seine, before boarding bespoke carriages to the then Royal Enclosure. Longchamp has been the muse for many top artists over the years including Édouard Manet and Edgar Degas. The current Longchamp racecourse actually comprises of
4 different tracks that are linked together, with racing conducted right handed (the same direction as Sydney). There is no provision for training facilities at Longchamp, with the majority of French flat horses prepared at Chantilly.

THE TRAINING CENTRE: CHANTILLY
Similar to Newmarket in the UK, Chantilly is the epicentre for racehorse training in France. Situated on approximately 1500 hectares, Chantilly is described by France Galop as a haven of peace where silence is interrupted only by the sound of galloping, it offers a full range of meticulously groomed slopes for a workout every day of the year.
• Les Aigles : In this large green area in the heart of the forest, a multitude of beautiful and lush green grass tracks are interspersed with sand tracks, fibre sand tracks, as well as hurdles and fences. • Lamorlaye & Coye-La-Foret : This part of the training centre, which offers state of the art facilities, is particularly aimed at jump horses.
• Avilly Saint Leonard : lA fibre sand track (Activ Track) has recently been added to the Avilly Saint Léonard training centre, the smallest and also the most rural area of the Chantilly training centre, so that horses can work here all year round.
• The Forest : Its most famous track, the legendary “Piste des Lions”, has played an important part in the making of the Chantilly training centre.
